Dulwich Symphony Orchestra: Young Composer's Award

The Dulwich Symphony Orchestra is pleased to present a new opportunity for secondary students to have their original compositions performed by a strong, local amateur orchestra.
The Young Composer’s Award is intended for GCSE and A Level Music students, who already have music coursework to compose and submit to exam boards, to give them a live performance opportunity, and one with a prize of £100.
The terms of the competition are very simple. Composers submit one composition, scored for at least seven orchestral instruments (any combination welcome) and with a duration of up to five minutes by the closing date of Friday 17th April.
Submissions should be as a readable score and audio representation (the same requirements as exam boards). The top three compositions will be shortlisted, and each of the three students will be invited to an orchestral rehearsal to hear their piece rehearsed.
The committee and conductors of the orchestra will make the final decision and the winner of the competition will be announced, and their piece performed at the Dulwich Symphony Orchestra concert on Saturday 27th June, 2009 at All Saints Church in Dulwich.
We are very pleased to have local composer John Holland as a judge. He is winner of the British Composer Awards 2008 (Making Music Award), secretary of the Forum London Composers Group and Conductor of the Lambeth Wind Orchestra.
