Jazz Alive 2008 - Last chance to apply!

10 September 2008

Jazz Alive 2008 is creating an exciting opportunity enabling young musicians and vocalists to explore the history of jazz music in the UK and take part in creative music making led by award winning British Jazz musicians and composers Soweto Kinch and
Orphy Robinson.

Jazz Alive sessions will be held up to twice a week, commencing on Tuesday 16th September 2008. The target age group is between 13 and 20 (up to 25 for those with special needs).

The 10-week course will also include the history of the development of British jazz through the pioneering work of musicians from a Black British background, who have influenced the music globally, giving this project a unique foundation.

These leading edge musicians will support the 25 selected young people in the creation of a new repertoire to be performed in public in November 2008. The project will include renowned UK jazz figures as guest speakers, together with visits to the London Jazz Festival and the BBC live recording venue at Maida Vale.

The project will culminate in the production of professionally recorded compositions, created through the process of fusing classic jazz with the currency of other musical influences.
