Complete 115-year concert history of BBC Proms now available online

To coincide with the launch of the new concert season, the BBC Proms has launched its new online Proms archive, giving details of all performances, composers, works, soloists, conductors and ensembles in its 115-year history, including new commissions and substituted artists.

A historical perspective

Over 7000 concerts have taken place since the first Proms concert on 10 August 1895 at the Queen's Hall, London. The venue was sadly burnt down by a bomb dropping in 1941, causing the Proms to move to their current home of the Royal Albert Hall.

The database will prove an invaluable research tool to performers, promoters and historians alike, as well as those who simply have an interest in music and would like to learn more about concert programming through the ages. Determine the most performed piece of music ever, or search within a specified time frame. The BBC also invites feedback on the database or perhaps your own memories of concerts past.
