Come to a free event about choirs, health and the community - organised by Arts Net

There is something in the air about choirs at the moment. Many of the benefits of choirs will be obvious to those who take part but TV programmes such as ‘The Choir’ have brought singing to a wider audience. Many people who suffer severe physical and mental health conditions could benefit if they could access choirs.

Looking at the evidence

Research is the best way we have of influencing policy so that choirs, and the arts generally, are taken seriously as a provision for groups with such health conditions. The De Haan Centre in Folkestone, part of Canterbury Christ Church University, is specifically dedicated to researching choirs, and what is emerging from the research is fascinating.

When and where?

We will be holding a free open event at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley on Wednesday 28th April 2010 10am - 12.30pm, to look at the arts in a health context.

What is Arts Net?

Arts Net is a collective of artists / crafts persons, arts, third sector and statutory organisations who are interested in how the arts can support health, and developing ways for marginalised groups to access them.

Who will be speaking?

We welcome three internationally renowned choir research practitioners, Professor Stephen Clift and Trish Vella-Burrows (De Haan Centre), as featured on Radio 4, and Dr Wolfgang Bossinger who set up a network of singing groups in hospitals in Germany. After this presentation we aim to have a short, informal network and planning meeting which we would really like you to attend. The aim of the session will be to explore links between Arts Net and local choirs.
