Perform 'Carmen' in a day and raise money for a good cause

Streetwise Opera, a charity working with homeless people, is offering singers an exciting opportunity to sing on a West End stage whilst also fundraising for Streetwise Opera. No prior experience is necessary and you do not need to read music to take part.

What's on offer?

The challenge will be to learn and perform a reduced version
of Bizet’s ‘Carmen’ in just one day, directed by renowned opera director Keith Warner (credits include Wagner’s ‘Ring Cycle’ at The Royal Opera House) whilst appearing alongside professional singers and Streetwise performers. All the music will be well-known and easy to learn in a day – word-sheets will be sent out ahead of the event in case anyone would like to practise beforehand! The reduced version will include all main arias and choruses, with a narrator to keep the story moving along.

When and where?

Sunday 21 March 2010, rehearsals 9:30am - 5 pm, performance with orchestra and soloists at 7:30pm
at London's Fortune Theatre, Russell Street, Covent Garden, WC2B 5HH
(home of the critically acclaimed ‘Woman in Black’)

We will provide everything you need for the day – props, song-sheets, meals and refreshments.

How do I get involved?

There are 50 places of which over half have already been taken. Each singer needs to raise a minimum sponsorship of £400 (e.g. 80 people sponsoring just £5 each or 20 people sponsoring £20 each) to take part and all monies raised will provide vital funds for our next production with homeless performers from across the country.

How can I buy tickets?

Performers will be given an allocation of 2 tickets to invite friends and family to cheer them on at the performance. Additional tickets can be purchased at £10 each plus booking fee by contacting the Fortune Theatre Box Office on 0844 871 7626, via www.ambassadortickets.com or by visiting the Theatre in person.

What is Streetwise Opera?

Streetwise Opera is an award-winning charity which runs a range of music based activities – including professional level opera productions – to help people experiencing homelessness move forward in their lives. The results of our work are incredible, with many of our participants going on to achieve tangible changes in their lives such as getting back in touch with family, moving back into work or reducing their drug or alcohol dependency. The event in March is to raise funds for our next production – which will involve over 150 homeless participants and include them performing at the Spitalfields Winter Festival.

How do I sign up or get more information?

If you would like to take part in this extraordinary event, all you need to do is contact Jasmine on 020 7495 3133 or email office@streetwiseopera.org and commit to raising a minimum sponsorship of £400. All monies raised will go towards our next production which will involve over 150 homeless performers.
