Soldier's Tale celebrates 90 years

A special concert will be taking place featuring new music inspired by, and using the same combination of instruments as, Igor Stravinsky’s ‘The Soldier’s Tale’.

When and where is it?

Saturday 23 January, 7.30pm at St. Gabriel’s Church, 30 Warwick Square, Pimlico SW1

Celebrating its 90th anniversary, this seminal chamber music piece for seven musicians (two woodwind, two brass, two strings and percussion) and narrator has provided inspiration for composers for many years and helped give a fresh impetus to the five new works created for this unique event.

Who is involved?

A collaborative project with New Music Brighton and Forum London Composers Group, the new pieces - written by composers from across London and the South-East - will be presented by the professional ensemble Talkestra, led by their creative director, Steve Dummer. Even if you don’t go to concerts of new music very often (or at all) you are guaranteed an enlightening experience in their capable hands, as they play the music and also explain what’s going on to make it sound the way it does. The composers will also be there on the night, so there will be the opportunity to meet them and talk about their work.

How much will it cost?

Tickets are £10 on the door, £8 concessions.
